Dear Mr. So and So

Dear Mr. Howard,
Blocking the ball into the 7th row looks cool but the other team gets the ball back.

Dear Mr. D’Antoni,
Using all your timeouts before crunch time leaves you with no timeouts in cruch time.

Dear Mr. James,
Sometimes you do miss a shot on your own.  Not every miss is because you got fouled.

Dear NBA refs,
No one is here to see you.  Nor do real fans want to win because of you.  Just call the game evenly and everyone will be happy.

Dear Memphis Grizzlies,
Love the beards.

Dear Mr. Bryant,
Going 1 on 5 for 8 straight posessions won’t get it done.  I thought you learned that 4 years ago.

Dear Mr. Richardson and Mr. Turkoglu,
The playoffs started, please report to the court.

I would like to congratulate the Boston Referees on a great victory tonight…oh and the Celtics played well too

Maybe others will disagree but I thought there was a lot of home court cooking going on here by the refs. Continue reading

Playoff Predictions

I write a bi-weekly NBA article on Popblerd, but since it took me forever to write, I’m putting it on here too.

Eastern Conference First Round

1. Chicago vs. 8. Indiana

Chicago won 62 games this season and finished on a 9 game winning streak and the best record in the NBA.  Indiana finished 8 games below .500 and only made the playoffs because, as unbelievable as it is, the 7 other eastern conference teams were even more terrible.  No need to talk any more about this series because it will be over before you are done reading this paragraph.  Bulls in 4. 5 Moments I would LOVE to see in this Knicks-Celtics series

Beyond the obvious like the Knicks winning or playing defense or getting an offensive rebound or successfully switching on a pick & roll…here is what I want to see:

  1. Carmelo Anthony hitting a game winning shot in MSG.Continue reading

Who's Better?

I’m getting sick of conversations like “If Kobe gets another title he’ll be considered the GOAT (greatest of all time)”, or ‘LeBron isn’t even in the conversation with Kobe until he wins a title”.

Winning titles is great, not that many players get to do it, but it shouldn’t be used as a basis for an argument about who’s better.  Please refer to example one if you don’t believe me.

Example 1:

This guy

would be considered better than this guy:

I rest my case.

Random thought about the Knicks/Celtics playoff series

At first I thought the Celtics were being sneaky by not playing Shaq, ready to unleash him at full strengh for the playoffs.  Now I’m not so sure.  Not seeing him for the final few games makes me think he’s not going to be ready for round 1 vs. the Knicks.  This is excellent news since we have one of the smallest teams around.  It looks like we’ll only have to deal with Krstic and Jermaine O’Neal’s corpse, and maybe some Big Baby at the center position.  If Shaq comes back that throws a wrench into things a little bit.  We’d be severely undersized.

If only we had some bigger bodies on the team….If only there were some 7 footers out there for real cheap.  Someone that could give Amare a rest for ten minutes a game.  Someone like Darko Milicic, Anthony Randolph, Earl Barron, Jordan Hill….how do these other teams keep finding cheap big men?  Beats me.
