2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 25

The Knicks are officially eliminated so now they are beating playoff teams that are still fighting for playoff position because Knicks. A 2-0 week and two games to go to end this miserable season.

1 Anthony, Carmelo The 5 days off did Melo good as he’s back to the great play we’ve seen most of the season. Melo had the best season of his career and yet misses the playoffs for the first time in his career. Props to Melo for trying until the very end. He could easily have half-assed his way through the last few games and no one would have blamed him. 3
2 Stoudemire, Amar’e Amare has hardly missed any games this season and is still healthy. Figures that for the first time in 4 years he’s healthy for the playoffs and still won’t get to participate. 2
3 Smith, J.R. JR isn’t on the record setting pace he was last week but still hit 8 3’s in the two games on a decent percentage. So what was up with the first 4 months, injury or just mental? I’d say injury but he seemed to instantly get 200% better the day after Woodson sat him for a full game as punishment. 1
4 Shumpert, Iman Look at that defense! So glad everyone is rounding into form 2 weeks too late. 4
5 Chandler, Tyson A grand total of 7 points in the last two games. OK, not everyone is rounding into form at the end of the season. 5
6 Prigioni, Pablo Pablo passes the ball and he’s not Raymond Felton, that’s good enough for 6th place before we even mention he’s 2nd in the league in 3 point percentage. 6
7 Aldrich, Cole Aldrich has done a nice job at backup center when he’s called upon. Which is about once a week for reasons only known to Woodson. 9
8 Felton, Raymond Not a bad week for Felton. Not a good week but considering the way this season has gone I’ll gladly take a mediocre week from Felton. 7
9 Hardaway Jr., Tim THJ really regressed the last few weeks. He still has potential and hopefully will grow next season. Looking back at the draft there isn’t one player that got picked after him that I’d rather have. 8
10 Murry, Toure’ Murry played 1 more minute than Brown this week for a total of 1 minute played. Why develop players when you’re eliminated from the playoffs when you can add wear and tear to your vets for next year! 10
11 Jeremy Tyler Same comment as for Murry, why in the world not play these guys 30 minutes a game to give them some run considering there is nothing to play for now. 12
12 Shannon Brown Zero minutes this week but at least he got to wear a jersey. 11
13 Martin, Kenyon Still getting dem checks. 13
14 Bargnani, Andrea If you don’t have anything nice to say…. 14

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 17

Only one game this week.  This is a good thing because I had such a bad taste in my mouth from the Sacramento game it took me all week to get it out.  It would be great if more than 1 or two people on this team played well in the same week, it’s hard to rank 13 sucky players.
Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Anthony, Carmelo Carmelo had another poor shooting night, but what do you expect when he ends up playing 48 minutes?  Does Woodson not realize Melo always has amazing 1st quarters but then Woodson’s minute management grinds him into a pulp by the end of the game?  Melo also gets the #1 spot for grabbing a bunch of boards and also looking like the only starter who is actually trying in games. 2
2 Chandler, Tyson Chandler looks like he’s checked out on Woodson.  He looks like he’s pissed at all his teammates.  He looks like he’s giving about 65% effort on defense.  Despite all that he had a double double and outplayed everyone on the roster except Melo. 3
3 Prigioni, Pablo He’s the Knicks best PG, but only if you go by facts, stats, and any other available metric out there.  Good thing he plays half as many minutes as Felton. 4
4 Jeremy Tyler Tyler only played 12 minutes but was able to grab 5 boards.  You have to wonder if playing Tyler 5 more minutes would have given Melo the energy to hit 1 or two extra shots at the end of the game. 1
5 Stoudemire, Amar’e Another super efficient offensive game from Amare.  A little too many turnover (6) and the usual bad defense and the usual loss when he plays. Continue reading

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 16

1-2 this week with the obligatory hey, maybe this team isn’t so bad and might be turning things around game against Denver before turning back into a bad Knicks team again.  Will this be the last power rankings with this roster?  The next one will be written the day before the trade deadline so it’s possible that there will be some new faces on this list by next week.
Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Jeremy Tyler He hasn’t played a ton of minutes, but he did sport a +30 this week and had a double double against Denver.  Jeremy was also the only Knick to play well in all 3 games this week. 6
2 Anthony, Carmelo The list of Knicks who look like they are still actually trying is down to about 3 and one of them is Melo.  He couldn’t hit shots against Portland or OKC and his free throw attempts are way down, but it must be hard to keep any sort of consistency when literally every person you played with last year is playing much worse this year. 1
3 Chandler, Tyson Tyson looks like he’s one more blowout loss away from open revolt.  He now appears to scowl at his teammates when they switch for no reason instead of helping them, but I’d still rather have him on the court than half of these jokers. 3
4 Prigioni, Pablo I almost thought Woodson came to his senses when Pablo played 8 more minutes than Felton against Portland and clearly outplayed him.  The very next game the teams best point guard took a back seat to arguably the league worst starting point guard because Woodson. 4
5 Stoudemire, Amar’e Amare gets this high because he’s been super efficient on offense.  The Knicks still lose when he plays, they are 12-27 when he does and 8-4 when he doesn’t.  It doesn’t matter though because if he’s healthy enough to play he’s going to so at least he’s scoring when he is out there. Knicks vs. Nuggets – 2-7-14 – Game Recap

Written by William Lee

Friday night’s game between the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks was a very competitive game to start, with both teams going back and forth. New York took an early 8-2 lead behind a hot start from Carmelo Anthony, who made his first six shots. Denver would turn it around with defense, forcing the Knicks into eight turnovers in the first quarter. New York, who is best in the league at minimizing turnovers at 12.8 per game, was out of character Friday night. Iman Shumpert had four turnovers in less than seven minutes by himself! The defense propelled the Nuggets to go on a 12-0 run to get a double digit lead 24-14 with 1:48 left in the game.
In the second quarter, the script completely flipped, it was the Knicks defense that starting causing havoc, and getting the Nuggets to turnover. Denver had 11 turnovers in the second quarter, 7/8 of the players that played in the quarter all recorded at least one turnover. This helped give New York ten more possessions in the quarter than Denver.
Pablo Prigioni and Amare Stoudemire were especially effective, when all the starters were resting in the beginning of the second quarter. They got New York back in the game, and when the starters came back in they effectively  ended the quarter well, going on a 13-2 run to end the first half to give the Knicks a 50-44 lead. Prigioni didn’t score a point in the game, but effected the games in other areas, with six assist and four steals. Stoudemire scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds off the bench in 20 minutes of play.
In the third quarter, everything went well for the Knicks, including the play that gave them a double digit lead. Carmelo Anthony missed badly on a three-point attempt, but Tyson Chandler was fortunate enough to be around the ball, and just lays it back in to give the Knicks a 59-48 lead with 9:04 left in the third quarter. That was the lone offensive rebound in the quarter, but not much was needed, as the Knicks almost made 2/3 of their shot attempts in the period. A blow out was in full effect by the end of the third quarter with the score 83-68, and no Knicks’ starters would be reinserted back into the lineup in the fourth quarter.
New York had a great team victory, winning 117-90 with six players in double figures scoring. Carmelo Anthony led the way with 31 points in 32 minutes of play. Anthony had plenty of help as the Knicks’ bench scored 60 points in the game. New York’s frontline was impressive against the small Nugget’s frontline, Continue reading

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 15

A 2-2 week.  Doesn’t seem to bad right?  Well the two wins were against some of the worst teams in the league and one of the losses was against literally the worst team in the league.  I really don’t understand this team at all right now, you never know what team will show up from night to night and unlike last year no game on the schedule is a definite win.

Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Anthony, Carmelo Two weeks in a row at #1.  No one else on this team seems capable of stringing together more than 2 games of good play so this is Melos spot to lose.  His rebounding has taken a slight dip but considering how bad everyone else has been I can’t complain too much.  You have to wonder if Carmelo wants to stick around after this season considering the players around him.  Is the Knicks pitch to Melo going to be “hey this offseason we are confident we will be able to add the pieces necessary to beat the Bucks.” 1
2 Smith, J.R. Yes, the guy who spent the most weeks at the #15 spot is now in the #2 spot.  That’s what this season has come to.  He had one bad game, but looked surprisingly good in the other 3.  My theory: It’s too cold out to go to the clubs.  He’ll revert back to terrible, hungover JR around mid/late March, just in time for the playoffs. 6
3 Chandler, Tyson Never mind what said about Tyson looking like the old Tyson.  He looks like Tyson but old.  Seeing him get manhandled by Zaza Pachulia was depressing.  Still he played alright which is better than 12 other players on this team. 2
4 Prigioni, Pablo Pablo needs to be more aggressive.  He can’t go a game without a shot an another with only 1 assist.  Deficiencies aside he’s still the Knicks best point guard. 3
5 Hardaway Jr., Tim 3 great shooting nights before that stinker in Milwaukee.  Still, he has to get better on defense, THJ posted a +/- of -19 against the Heat despite being productive on offense. Continue reading

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 14

The Knicks went 2-1 this week.  2-0 after injuried to Amare, Bargnani, K-Mart, and Metta forced Woodson to go with the 2 point guard lineup that pretty much everyone on the planet except Woodson realizes is the way to go with this team.  This week is the exact opposite of last week, it’s tough to rank because no one had a particularly bad week where last week was tough because no one had a good week.
Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Anthony, Carmelo Lets see, all Carmelo did this week was have the highest scoring game of all time at MSG with 62 points on 66% shooting, 13 rebounds and zero turnovers while facing double and triple teams.  Anyone who complained about his zero assists should be banned from watching basketball.  He also surrounded that game with a 28 point 7 assits night and a 35 point 5 assist night.  Even if the rest of the season is miserable , we got to experience one of the best regular season games I can ever remember watching. 2
2 Chandler, Tyson Tyson is starting to look a lot more like the defensive beast we remember.  Now that Woodson realizes (for now at least) that Tyler and Aldrich can handle center duty for 10 minutes each, Tyson can go all out for 30 minutes a night instead of playing an exhausting 40+ minutes.  Everyone wins. 1
3 Prigioni, Pablo Priggy is going this high not because of his numbers but because the Knicks hardly ever lose when he starts and he also makes Felton look like not the worst starting PG in the league. 10
4 Felton, Raymond Felton looks like a good PG when there is another PG out there at the same time doing half the PG duties.  Maybe it’s just because of Pablo (it is) but Felton did have a very good week even if the problem of opposing guards running amok still hasn’t been solved. 13
5 Hardaway Jr., Tim Look who remembered how to shoot again!  THJ looked very good (on offense) this week, especially during the Lakers game. 9 Continue reading
