Knicks @ Spurs – 1-2-14 – Game Recap

Carmelo Anthony made his return from his sprained ankle, just in time for the dreaded Texas Triangle road trip. The Knicks start the trip off by heading to San Antonio to face the Spurs Thursday night. It is a brand New Year, and New York could not wait to leave 2013 behind them, the Knicks are 9-15, being bottom dwellers in the Atlantic Division. The only thing they can hang their hat on is the fact that the Atlantic Division is so terrible, that the Knicks are still in arm’s length reach of the Division title. We can only hope the New York Knicks has made a New Year’s resolution to go at least .500 the rest of the season.
What a difference a turn in the calendar makes, Iman Shumpert came out of his season long slump, scoring double figures in the first quarter alone, on his way to a career high 27 points. The New Year was so good to Shumpert, with 5:57 in the first quarter, he felt a foul and just threw up a shot off balance, and completed an and-one, to put the Knicks up 15-10. Marco Belinelli did not want to be outdone by Shumpert, Belinelli also scored ten points in the first quarter. Belinelli would also be on his way to a career night, scoring 32 points for the game. The Spurs were lights out from beyond the arc, going 5/7 in the first quarter.
With the Knicks ahead 26-25, the Spurs’ reserve opened up the second quarter on a 13-3 run, continuing to relentlessly rain down threes. This was the story all night long, New York did not contest well on the perimeter. Andrea Bargnani started asserting himself mid-way through the second quarter, scoring six straight points to ignite an 18-6 run to end the first half. Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert would also contribute six points each to the run as well, to give the Knicks a 52-47 lead at the half. San Antonio was right in the game, and started missing wide open threes, not making New York pay for their defensive lapses. This trend would continue in the second half for the Spurs. Knicks vs Raptors – 12-27-13 – Game Recap

After the Christmas Day beat down the Knicks received at the hands of the Thunder, the Knicks start a home and home against the Raptors Friday night. Toronto has been playing a lot better lately, they are 5-3 since the Rudy Gay trade, with two of the losses coming from the defending Western Conference Champion Spurs. Toronto come into Friday night the Atlantic Division leader, with New York only three games back of the Division crown, which will automatically give the team no less than fourth seed in the playoffs.

The Knicks were again without their leading scorer Carmelo Anthony due to a left sprained ankle. Andrea Bargnani got out to a hot start, scoring ten points in the first quarter against his former team, that made him a No. 1 overall draft pick in 2006. The first quarter was a display of extremely sloppy basketball, with neither team taking care of the basketball. Toronto had seven turnovers, New York was even worse, with eight. Though the Knicks were able to overcome all the turnovers in the first quarter by playing great defense, forcing the Raptors to shoot 35.3% from the field, leading 25-18 after one period.

There was more ugly basketball in the second quarter, with both teams shooting no more than 40% from the field. J.R. Smith was the lone Knick making any shots in the quarter. Smith hit all four attempts, three of which were threes, for a total of 11 point. The Raptors took the lead, after a Terrance Ross three, leading 37-36 with 3:17 remaining in the first half. The Knicks would answer, ending the second quarter on a 13- 3 run, to take a 49-40 lead.

Knicks vs Thunder – 12-25-13 – Preview

Here is my preview for the Knicks’ Christmas day game. DO NOT WATCH THIS GAME! I cannot emphasis this enough! We (Yes I am a delusional Knicks’ fan, that thinks he is a part of the team and say things like we, us, etc.) are going to get completely destroyed by the Thunders. It will be a complete waste of your time, do not throw away two and a half hours. Do not watch a J.R. Smith led Knicks team (Carmelo Anthony a game time decision due to his sprained ankle) who STILL thinks it is Santa Con. Check this video out, trust me, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Please instead, spend the time enjoying with your family and friends. Or instead spend the time with your new gifts, which hopefully isn’t anything Knicks related. If you do not live in New York, YOU WILL BE RIDICULED for sporting any Knicks gear, as well you should be… WE SUCK! You know if you MUST get your Knicks basketball fix, and I guess you must be glutton for punishment. I recommend watching when the Knicks did anything good….sooo over 40 year ago vintage footage is what I recommend. Get yourself some NBA Dynasty Series – New York Knicks – The Complete History, or here is something more recent.

So again to recap my preview of the Knicks’ Christmas day game, DO NOT WATCH THIS GAME! DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR!

As the great prophet and philosopher Jay-Z once said, “it was all good just 5
months ago!” Back in July, all Knicks fans, including myself, were looking forward to
the day that Iman Shumpert 21 jersey was up in the rafters next to Ewing, Walt
Clyde, Earl the Pearl, Willis, Barnett, McGuire, the Senator, and Melo Anthony (of
course.)

Ok, maybe that was a little bit of an exaggeration. But still. Shump was a
glimmer of hope on a team full of geezers that had just vastly underachieved after
losing to the Pacers in the second round of the playoffs. The swagger, the flat top,
the tweets after every win that the opposing team had just been “taped,” the
backpack, that crazy sick putback dunk against the Pacers, the lockdown defense,
and the clothes! Knicks fans loved this guy. And it was hard not to. He was the
second coming of Walt Clyde Frazier, and he and Melo were supposed to keep the
Knicks contenders for the foreseeable future.

Knicks vs Grizzlies – 12-21-13 – Game Recap

Memphis entered Saturday matinee game against New York on a five game losing streak. New York though plays terrible on matinee games, 0-2 this season in early afternoon games, losing by a combined 72 points! With rumors that Knicks’ players were out partying the nights before those early afternoon games, Mike Woodson played babysitter Friday night, keeping his Knicks team in a hotel. The curfew didn’t help the Knicks, as Memphis got off to a fast start, jumping out to an 8-2 lead, extending this to 17-8 by the 4:24 mark in the first quarter. The Knicks went on a 10-2 run, cutting the deficit to one, 19-18 with a little over two minutes remaining. Carmelo Anthony was in double figures scoring in the first quarter alone, finishing the game with 30 points overall.

New York would go on an 8-0 run bridging from the first quarter to the second quarter. The run was capped off by a Carmelo Anthony steal that lead to a Tim Hardaway Jr. furious fast break dunk, to take a 28-25 lead with 9:16 left in the quarter. Hardaway Jr. provided a spark off the bench, playing 30 minutes scoring 16 points, he was favored over the struggling starting guard Iman Shumpert. The Grizzles played great defense to end the first half, New York converted on only one field goal in the last six minute of the second quarter. The defense led to an 8-2 Grizzles run, to end the first half with a ten point lead 50-40. Madison Square Garden was not happy with the Knicks’ matinee effort, booing the Knicks off the court as the players entered the locker room for intermission. The game was played at Memphis’ pace, a slow grind it out game, the Grizzles beat the Knicks on all the hustle stats in the first half. This trend would continue for Memphis in the second half, helping the Grizzles to a 95-87 victory, to snap their losing streak. Continue reading →

The Milwaukee Bucks were without their two top scorers Wednesday night, O.J. Mayo did not play because he went home to attend his grandmother’s funeral, and Caron Butler was suffering from a swollen knee. Tyson Chandler made his return to the Knicks from his fractured right fibula injury, which kept him sidelined for six weeks. Chandler’s return was much needed for the Knicks, he brought the defensive energy the Knicks sorely missed, and collected crucial rebounds down the stretch of the game. The Knicks needed everything he gave, 9 points 9 rebounds (5 of it being on the offensive glass) and 3 blocks in 37 minutes of play. With the extended minutes of play from the double overtime, Tyson Chandler suffered from cramps down the stretch. Playing so many minutes, after missing so much time, he had trainers working on the cramps every timeout.

New York won the game 107-101 in double overtime despite themselves, making mental errors down the stretch. Milwaukee jumped out quickly in the first overtime leading by four points, with Khris Middleton knocking down a quick three, scoring 20 points and grabbing 9 rebounds for the game. Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo played great defense on Carmelo Anthony all game, who had 29 points, but it took 29 shots to get it. After Tyson Chandler split a pair of free throws, there was defensive confusion on the Knicks’ coverage, as they let Brandon Knight knocked down an uncontested jump shot, to give the Bucks a four point lead with 3:43 remaining in the first overtime. If anyone should not have been open, it was Brandon Knight, who torched the Knicks all night long, scoring a career high 36 points, including six three pointers. Continue reading →

Knicks vs Wizards – 12-16-13 – Game Recap

John Wall dominated the first half, scoring in double figures in the first quarter alone. John Wall is one of the quickest point guards in the league, and he displayed it Monday night. Wall attacked in the open court, scoring either for himself or getting his teammates involved for 16 first half fast break points. John Wall had 19 points and 5 assist by halftime, and got plenty of help from Martell Webster, as he dropped four threes to compliment Wall penetrating attack into the paint. Martell Webster would fall a couple points of reaching his career high in points, finishing the game with 30 points.

The Knicks could not stop the Wizards, allowing 55.6% field goal, and getting scorched from beyond the arc, for seven three point shots in the first half. The Wizards kept the Knicks in the game, by turning the ball over frequently, with ten turnovers alone just in the second quarter. The extra possessions were much needed for New York, as the Knicks shoot a dismal 31.9% from the field, and was not able to collect much offensive rebounds off so many misses, only collecting five from 32 misses. Knicks @ Celtics – 12-13-13 – Game Recap

This is fucking depressing…..

The New York Knicks Friday night looked to take revenge on their Boston Celtic Atlantic Division rival for the Sunday matinee beating. With the 41 point lost fresh in the memory, the Knicks did not lack effort this night. Jared Sullinger got it started for the Celtics destroying Andrea Bargnani in the post, going a perfect 3/3 in the opening period for eight points. Carmelo Anthony kept the Knicks in the game scoring double digits in the first quarter. Courtney Lee in three minute of play in the first quarter, scored eight points, making two very difficult threes, both with the shot clock winding down, including a buzzer beater to end the first quarter, giving Boston a 29-26 lead.

New York could not play defense without fouling in the second quarter, sending Celtics to the free throw line on the first three Boston possessions to start the period. This sparked a 16-2 run to begin the quarter for the Celtics, giving Boston a 45-28 lead. The Knicks were over the foul limit with 8:04 remaining in the second quarter due to poor defense, and Sullinger’s continued dominance in the post, adding nine more points in the quarter. The Celtics though did not take advantage of this fact, going to the line only twice for the rest of the quarter. Carmelo Anthony carried the Knicks to the end of the first half, leading New York on a 13-3 run to end the period. Anthony was single handedly responsible for 11points during the run, scoring nine points, working it in the post and handing out an assist to Bargnani for a layup. This cut into the deficit to six, with the Celtics leading 54-48 after the first half.

Knicks vs Bulls – 12-11-13 – Game Recap

Wednesday matchup between the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks featured two injury -ridden teams. There would be no game winning floaters from Derrick Rose, as he has since underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee, since their opening week matchup. The Bulls were also without starters Luol Deng, who is still recovering from an Achilles injury, and Jimmy Butler, out with an injury to his turf toe. The Knicks are still without center Tyson Chandler (fractured leg), and were also without starting point guard Raymond Felton, who pulled his hamstring in the last game.

It was a defensive struggle in the first quarter, with the Bulls leading 17-15 after one period. The Knicks got out to an early lead going on a 9-0 after the Bulls scored the first basket. Carmelo Anthony had four points and an assist leading to an Andrea Bargnani layup during the run. The Bulls though would answer, with a 7-0 run to tie the game up at 9-9. Mike Dunleavy was responsible for all the points in the run, scoring five points and handing an assist to Carlos Boozer for a layup. Both teams would exchange baskets the rest of the way, as the Bulls locked down the Knicks on defense, forcing New York to shot 26.1% from the field. The Knicks also played good defense, getting into the passing lanes, getting seven steals, and causing the Bulls to have eight turnovers in the first quarter. Continue reading →
