Yeah, that was awful.
After a solid win to get everyone feeling good about this team, the Knicks looked terrible in Boston on Friday night. They got blown out of the gym, 115-87. New York let poor officiating take them out of the game and result in multiple technical fouls, including Carmelo Anthony getting ejected from the game in the second quarter. They never found a groove after Melo’s unceremonious exit, and it was garbage time early in the fourth quarter.
Takeaways from this game:
More Willy, more fun:
There weren’t too many bright spots in this game, but a definite plus was the play of Willy Hernangomez off the bench. In his second straight game with extended minutes, Hernangomez finished with 8 points, 12 rebounds, a block, and 3 assists. His defense was iffy, but he looks more comfortable out there, and in time, will learn how to play defense in the NBA.
A new Knick killer:
Paul Pierce isn’t be a Celtic anymore, so the role of Knicks killer has been filled in by Isaiah Thomas. Thomas had 29 points on 9/17 shooting, and was perfect from the line, 8/8. This guy is amazing, and I love to watch him play against the other 28 teams in the NBA, just not tonight.
Also, the whole, “Marcus Smart plays physical” is code for, “Marcus Smart gets no fouls called on him.” I mean, he was beating the crap out of whoever he was guarding, which leads to…
Refs were trash:
I’m one of those guys who NEVER blames a game on officials because my Dad has been officiating basketball for about 8 years, but this was horrible. Tony Brothers and his crew were just awful tonight, as every call seemed to go the Celtics way. That’s not why the Knicks lost by 28, but the calls took the Knicks out of the game, literally in Carmelo’s case. Even Breen and Clyde were complaining.
Other Notes:
Courtney Lee, Derrick Rose, Kristaps Porzingis and Brandon Jennings all had off nights tonight, and when that happens it’s going to be a tough one. The Knicks need two of those four guys to have good games every night if they want to have a chance to win, especially when Melo is unavailable. Also, does Sasha need to shoot from 30 feet EVERY time he catches the ball? That’s me nitpicking, but I digress.
Knicks need to have a short memory, as they take on DeMar, “All of a sudden I’m Michael Jordan” DeRozan and the Toronto Raptors tomorrow night in Canada at 7:30. Hey, at least Carmelo will be well rested!
Knicks vs Kings – 2-2-13 – Game Thread
Another very winnable game. Who will get tonights #Knickeffect? Comment below as the game goes on.
A Roller-coaster of Emotions
This game made me so angry, sad, happy, grumpy, ecstatic, nervous, depressed, elated, worried and furious.
- Since the Knicks were playing the Kings it seems like they decided to try and win with only Chandler and Copeland trying in the 1st half.
- Derrick Rose is apparently healthy. He wore an Isiah Thomas jersey in the first quarter of this game and an Aaron Brooks jersey in the 2nd quarter.
- The first quarter of this game was the most disgusting thing I watched all day. And I watched Human Centipede 2 today.
- I threw up in my mouth during the Fredette coast to coast layup.
- Two minutes later I threw up again during Copelands coast to coast layup that got blocked. All 2 1/2 minutes it took him to get there. Why a layup?
- James Johnson. Season high. Knick Effect.
- Who has more confidence when they shoot, JR Smith or Chris Copeland?
- Since Dec 11th Ronnie Brewer has missed 14 straight 3-pointers, has 5 zero-point games and another 3 2-point games. Shumpert needs to come back ASAP.
- James White got the start, picked up 2 fouls in the first minute and was benched until the middle of the 2nd quarter. Thanks for the contribution!
- The Knicks were down by 27 in the middle of the 2nd quarter to the Kings. 27!
- In the 3rd quarter the Kings remembered they were thing Kings and let the Knicks pull to within 6.
- Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws. Tyson hit your free throws.
- Phantom foul on Kidd, Thomas hits both because unlike the Knicks the Kings can hit their free throws. (at one point in the 1st quarter the Knicks (Chandler) were 0-4 and the Kings were 10-10) That was the first bad call I’ve seen all night, not bad. And the Knicks are still up so all is good.
- The Knicks pull off the impossible, come back from the largest deficit in Knicks history and are up by 2 at the buzzer.
- Oh wait, not quite at the buzzer, Kings hit a buzzer beater to ruin Knicks fans day 1/2 hour into it. That one hurt.
New York Knicks Season Preview: Groundhog Day Edition
Ah, another season for the New York Knicks. My time as a Knicks fan has been long and at times, arduous, and this season will probably be much of the same. Due toDespite its best efforts, management has turned this team into a slightly more competent version of what the ‘Bockers trotted out for years under *gasp* Isaiah Thomas. Under ‘Zeke, New York had a team that was full of weird and bad contracts for overpriced subs (Shandon Anderson, Othella Harrington, and Nazr Mohammed) and a disappointing, enigmatic “superstar” (Stephon Marbury) that wasn’t as terrible as some might remember (they never finished with a bottom-five record in the league). Now, the Knicks’ roster is full of overpaid subs (Marcus Camby, Jason Kidd, and yes, Steve Novak) and a disappointing, enigmatic “superstar” (Amare Stoudemire). You ever seen the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray? I feel like my Knicks fandom is a living parallel. Now, granted, this team has two other top-25 players in Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler, but it feels like we’ve been here before. I’m already waiting out the STAT contract like I’ve waited out Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph before him, and I feel like this team is just as mismanaged as its been in the past. Despite all this, without further ado, here’s my preview for 2012-2013 New York Knicks season.
