New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks – 12/28/16 – Game Recap

New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks
Game 31: December 28, 2016
Hawks 102, Knicks 98 (OT)

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

My brother called that lane violation:

The Knicks began a 3 game road trip in Atlanta against the Hawks tonight and came up short, 102-98 in overtime. Carmelo Anthony was ejected in the second quarter after an altercation with Thabo Sefolosha and received a flagrant 2 foul. In his absence, Derrick Rose scored 26 points on a poor 9/28 from the field, and Kristaps Porzingis had 24 points and 8 rebounds, but missed a key free throw with 3 seconds left in overtime. Joakim Noah had another solid game with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Dennis Schröder led the Hawks with 25 points and 5 assists.

Dwight Howard finished the game with 16 points and 22 rebounds, the most rebounds a Knick opponent has had in a game this season.

Takeaways from this game:

Carmelo, come one bro

For the second time this season, Carmelo Anthony was ejected from a game in the first half. Continue reading

New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics – 12/25/16 – Game Recap

New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics
Game 30: December 25, 2016
Celtics 119, Knicks 114

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

A blue, blue Knicksmas:

After being left off the Christmas Day slate last season, the Knicks took on the Boston Celtics at MSG for a Christmas matinee. The Knicks hung around with the Celtics all game, even tying the game with under 3 minutes to go, but ultimately fell to the green and white, 119-114. Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 29 points, but struggled shooting, going 9-24 from the field. Derrick Rose had 25 points, and Kristaps Porzingis scored 21. Isaiah Thomas, who in my opinion is one of the most fun players to watch in the NBA, paced Boston with 27 points and gave the Knicks fits all afternoon.

Takeaways from this game

Way too much isolation:

We’ve seen this movie before. In previous years, when the Knicks would fall behind they would go too often to the Iso-Melo offense, and it would often lead to stagnant offensive sets. Continue reading

New York Knicks at Phoenix Suns – 12/13/16 – Game Recap

New York Knicks at Phoenix Suns
Game 25: December 13, 2016
Suns 113, Knicks 111

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

Overtime Stinker.

The Knicks were riding high on a four game road winning streak coming into Phoenix tonight, but couldn’t get the job done against the Suns and lost 113-111. New York spoiled an incredible game from Kristaps Porzingis, who finished this one with 34 points, 8 rebounds and 4 three pointers. Kyle O’Quinn also had an excellent game off the bench, scoring a season high 22 points while pulling down 14 rebounds, a truly remarkable game for KO. Even though these guys were carrying the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony had his second straight bad shooting night, as he finished 3-15 for 13 points. Derrick Rose left the game after the first quarter as his back acted up again. Former Knick Tyson Chandler had a game that was a throwback to his New York days with 13 points and 23 rebounds. Eric Bledsoe had 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists for Phoenix.

#TrapGame:

This was a game the Knicks had to win, and they didn’t. Continue reading

New York Knicks vs Los Angeles Lakers – 12/11/16 – Game Recap

New York Knicks vs Los Angeles Lakers
Game 24: December 11, 2016
Knicks 118, Lakers 112

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

Game two of the five game road trip of death took the Knicks to Hollywood for a Sunday night matchup with the Lakers at Staples Center. The Knicks had a number of opportunities to blow this game wide open, but couldn’t hold the Lakers down long enough to pull away. New York hung on and defeated the Lakers 118-112. Derrick Rose was back in the starting lineup after missing the past two games with a back injury and he came out of the gates on fire, hitting his first 8 shots from the field and finishing the game with 25 points. Kristaps Porzingis snapped out of his shooting funk and led the Knicks with 26 points on 8-15 shooting, along with 12 rebounds and 7 blocks. Brandon Jennings helped seal the game with an incredible fourth quarter, and he chipped in with 19 points and 4 assists. Lou Williams led the Lakers with 24 points off the bench, and Luol Deng, another underperforming 72 million dollar man, had 22 points.

New York Knicks vs Cleveland Cavaliers – 12/7/16 – Game Recap

New York Knicks vs Cleveland Cavaliers
Game 22: December 7, 2016
Cavaliers 126, Knicks 94

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

Well that was ugly.

On the second night of a back to back, The Knicks got their tails kicked by the Cleveland Cavaliers, 126-94. The Cavs steamrolled the Knicks right out of the gate, as they hit 23 three pointers to lead them to a 32 point win. The big three of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and of course LeBron James, combined for 74 points, with Irving leading the way with 28 points. Brandon Jennings, who filled in for the injured Derrick Rose, led the Knicks with 16 points. Carmelo Anthony had only 8 points on 9 shot attempts, and Kristaps Porzingis finished with 12 points.

Takeaways from this game:

The Cavs are out of the Knicks league. Continue reading

New York Knicks vs Sacramento Kings

New York Knicks vs Sacramento Kings
Game 20: December 4, 2016
Knicks 106, Kings 98

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

Mike Breen said it best, “Winning ugly.”

So after the Knicks took a 21 point lead over the lifeless-looking Kings from Sacramento, it all kind of fell apart. The Knicks would end up holding on to the lead and winning the game, 106-98, but it was not the most convincing win we’ve ever seen. Derrick Rose and Carmelo Anthony lead the Knicks with 20 points each, and Brandon Jennings had 19 off the pine. Kristaps Porzingis scored 15 points on his second straight rough shooting night, shooting 6-18 from the field. He also pulled down 14 rebounds. DeMarcus Cousins sulked his way through this game and finished with 36 points on an awful 9/30 shooting, and Rudy, “get me the hell out of Sacramento” Gay finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds.

New York Knicks vs Minnesota Timberwolves – 12/2/16 – Game Recap

New York Knicks vs Minnesota Timberwolves
Game 19: December 2, 2016
Knicks 118, Timberwolves 114

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

Welcome to the Kyle O’Quinn show starring Kyle O’Quinn

An apology might be in order.

It was the Timberwolves turn to be the road team as they traveled to New York on the second leg of a home and home. The Knicks squandered a 16 point lead, but once again held on to defeat the Wolves and sweep the season series, 118-114. Carmelo Anthony paced the Knicks with 29 points on 9-20 shooting, along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Kristaps Porzingis had a rough game with 11 points on only 2-12 shooting, but those two weren’t the stars of tonight’s game. That title belongs to none other than Kyle O’Quinn. KO was a beast, plain and simple, he had a season high 20 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks, and was a +16. He was the emotional leader on both ends of the court, where his heart and hustle lead the way. Karl-Anthony Towns had 20 points on only 5-18 shooting after his 47 point performance Wednesday night. Zack LaVine led Minnesota with 23 points.

New York Knicks vs Oklahoma City Thunder – 11/28/16 – Game Recap

New York Knicks vs Oklahoma City Thunder
Game 17: November 28, 2016
Thunder 112, Knicks 103

Written by Eric Weinstein – @ericcweinsteinn

Yeah, that Westbrook guy is pretty good.

Mr. Triple Double came into the Garden tonight and lived up to that name, and then some.

Russell Westbrook had a triple double 3 minutes into the third quarter and finished with 27 points, 18 rebounds, and 14 assists, which are numbers even the best NBA 2K players would have trouble getting (I would know, I’m a beast at 2K). A disappointing loss to say the least, as the Knicks saw their home winning streak come to an end at 6. Derrick Rose had his highest scoring game of the season with 30 points to lead the Knicks. Kristaps Porzingis had 21 points, and Carmelo Anthony had one of his worst games this season with 18 points on 4-19 shooting.

Takeaways from this game:

Westbrook.

If this guy doesn’t win the MVP it’s a joke. If you take away Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder, Continue reading
