2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 20

The Knicks are back down to 14 as Jimmer ends his 10 day contract averaging 50 points per 36 minutes.   It looks like the Knicks are going to use that final spot on Tony Wroten, who is coming off an injury and most likely won’t play the rest of the season, so that really helps our guard situation.  Anyway, one win and two losses since last week, lets see if I can sort out this mess.

1 Anthony, Carmelo This might have been Melos beat week of the season. I am a little disturbed Rambis finds it necessary to play Melo 40+ minutes on back to back nights. If he breaks Melo we might not win another game, and we’re on pace to win at least 2 more! 2
2 Afflalo, Arron Afflalo had a really great week. Now that my expectations are up I’m fully expecting an absolutely terrible week coming up very soon. 9
3 Lopez, Robin Lopez has been one of the only consistently positive things about this season. 3
4 Porzingis, Kristaps Porzingis went from good against Portland to not so good against the Celtics, to injured for the Pistons game. Not one of his better weeks. He also ended his streak of eastern conference rookie of the month awards, losing out to Myles Turner. 1
5 O’Quinn, Kyle Congrats to Kyle for being the least terrible guy on the Knicks bench! 10 Continue reading

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 16

The Knicks lost every game this week, no one is playing particularly well, and now coach Fisher has been fired.  Greek Salad hasn’t been resigned yet so we’re back down to 14 players on the roster.

1 Lopez, Robin Lopez started off the week with a great game agains the Celtics and a Monster game against the Pistons.  He also played 30 minutes or more in every game this week.  He didn’t do anything against the Nuggets, but no one strung together 4 good games this week and that 26 and 16 game against Detroit was most impressive.  Good enough for Lopez first #1 ranking of the season. 3
2 Porzingis, Kristaps Porzingis did the opposite of Lopez, played poorly against Boston and Detroit and then looked amazing against Memphis and Denver.  Imagine one day all our guys played well at the same time? 4
3 Afflalo, Arron This is representative of how bad the Knicks have been.  Afflalo didn’t have a very good week and moved up 2 spots. 5
4 Anthony, Carmelo Oh my lord did Melo shoot bad this week.  He said it’s because his knee is hurting which is just great.  Years 1 and 2 of his max contract have been disasters.  Good thing Melo got to the line, rebounded, and passed to make up for his shooting, but now he’s starting to miss a bunch of games so I’m getting pretty nervos. 1
5 Galloway, Langston Galloway had a nice showing against Detroit, but was absolute trash in the games he started this week. Continue reading

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 15

This is the first week this season in which the Knicks have a full roster of 15, after signing Thanasis Antetokounmpo.  Other than that, this week was pretty much what you’d expect; losses to Toronto and OKC and a win against the wretched Suns.  This is a hard week to rank and no one really played particularly well in the two losses.
Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Anthony, Carmelo After sitting out against Toronto, Melo came back with back to back double doubles, and was 2 assists shy of a triple double against the Suns. 1
2 Galloway, Langston Solid week for Langston in Calderons absense. Shooting is erratic, but defense and ball movement have been decent. 8
3 Lopez, Robin Consistently one of the best +/- on the team.  Odd that he only plays 24mpg. 3
4 Porzingis, Kristaps We learned this week that Porzingis is a lot slower than Dramond Green.  A LOT. 2
5 Afflalo, Arron How can Afflalo look so good some games and so completely terrible in others? Continue reading

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 14

Once again the Knicks hit .500 and once again go on a losing streak.  Melo played hurt and then didn’t play.  Lance missed some games and we realized how much he means to the team.  The rankings look pretty different this week due to injuries and some up and down play.  The OKC game is included in these rankings because I’m doing this a day late this week.

Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Williams, Derrick Yeah I went there. Who else had a better week than Williams? Back to back double doubles with 19 and 21 points, yes please. 4
2 Lopez, Robin Monster game against the Jazz, and respectable showings the rest of the week. 5
3 Galloway, Langston Galloway almost saved the day in OKC. Watch him finally get his groove and get thrown into a Jeff Teague trade. 6
4 Porzingis, Kristaps Shot is still sporadic, but pretty much every game he does something that makes me giddy. 2
5 Anthony, Carmelo Melo started off the week hot but was progressively more hobbled each game, culminating in a DNP against OKC. If the Knicks are going to make a playoff push Melo has to get healthy fast. Continue reading

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 13

The Knicks went 2-2 this week.  That’s OK, but losing to Brooklyn and needing double overtime to beat the ’76ers isn’t good.  I guess it could have been worse, and there were some nice performances in Melo’s 2 game absence.

Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Afflalo, Arron 3 really nice games for Arron this week. We’ll ignore the Grizzlies game. The Knicks win almost every time Arron scores over 20 points. 2
2 Porzingis, Kristaps Porzingis has had good shooting nights more often than not lately. It looks like stamina is the only thing holding him back, which is understandable since he has already played more minutes than all of last season. 3
3 Anthony, Carmelo If anyone was wondering just how important Melo is to this team, the Nets game should be a good indication. The Knicks can’t even beat the dregs of the league without Melo. 1
4 Williams, Derrick Williams was one of the only guys who showed against Brooklyn. Not sure why his minutes fluctuate so much (defense? Shot selection?) but he puts up great numbers when he plays more than 20. 5
5 Lopez, Robin I still can’t figure out why sometimes Robin looks like he has some offense and sometimes he looks like Dennis Rodman on offense. Continue reading

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 12

It looks like that embarrassment against the Bulls on the 1st really rallied this team.  A 3 and 1 week with the one loss being a missed 3 at the buzzer, which would have made the Knicks the first team to beat the Spurs at home all season.

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 11

Interesting week, two nice wins against the Pistons and Hawks. Oh, and a 4th quarter against the Bulls that was the Knicks lowest scoring 4th quarter.  Ever.
Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Anthony, Carmelo Melo is still #1 in the rankings but I am a little disturbed by the lack of free throws Melo got this week.  7 in 3 games is not ideal.  On the plus side, the Knicks seem to win when Melo has 5 or more assists, something he did in both wins this week. 1
2 Afflalo, Arron Arron had to get a top 2 spot for his ridiculous game against Atlanta.  38 points on 14-17 shooting.  Beautiful. 5
3 Porzingis, Kristaps Two months into the NBA season and Porzingis has 2 rookie of the month awards.  So much for all that talk about not being effective for a few years. 2
4 Lopez, Robin Robin Lopez continues his streak of good games with a 6 block game against Detroit and a 16 point game against Atlanta. 4
5 Williams, Derrick Even if he sucks the rest of the season, we’ll always have that 4th quarter in Detroit. Continue reading

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 10

Pretty crappy week overall.  0-3 and somehow the closest game was the game against Cleveland sans Melo. Hopefully the Knicks new years resolution is to not look terrible.
Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Anthony, Carmelo Melo only played in 2 of the 3 games this week, but the games he did play in he looked like a star yet again.  Hopefully the last 10 games is the Melo we’ll get most of the season and not the Melo from the first 15-20 games. 1
2 Porzingis, Kristaps Yes, he had a stinker vs Atlanta, but looked good in the other two games.  His shot is going to start to fall soon and then he’s going to be unstoppable. 6
3 Thomas, Lance I can’t believe Lance Thomas turned into our best bench player.  The Knicks still have a 2019 2nd rounder coming from Cleveland.  That Shumpert and JR trade looks better every day. 2
4 Lopez, Robin Maybe getting owned by Vucevic knocked some sense into Robin, as he looked much better this week. 8
5 Afflalo, Arron Arron cooled down a ton since last week, which is a big contributor to the Knicks problems with winning basketball games. Continue reading

2015/16 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 9

The Knicks go 3-1 this week.  In keeping with their trend, no more than 2 or 3 guys are allowed to play really well in any single game.  Fortunately for the Knicks 1 of those guys has been Melo all week, and when Melo plays really well the Knicks have a great chance at winning.
Rank Player Comments Last weeks Rank
1 Anthony, Carmelo This was an easy call.  Melo shot lights out against the Magic and Bulls.  He didn’t have a great shooting night against the Wolves, but had a season high in assists, 1 shy of a triple double.  The Knicks look like a playoff team when Melo is firing on all cylindars. 1
2 Thomas, Lance What insane world are we living in where Lance Thomas has been the Knicks 2nd best player AND the Knicks won most of the games?  I’m finally convinced, sorry for all the hate Lance.  I’ll add my newly found surplus of hate to the Vujacic section. 4
3 Afflalo, Arron Until the dud against the Magic Arron has been a legit 2nd scoring option next to Melo. It says a lot that the one game this week he couldn’t get it going was the 1 game the Knicks lost. 2
4 O’Quinn, Kyle The basketball gods giveth and the basketball gods taketh away.  O’Quinn was becoming a really key part of the bench until he was held out of the Magic game with an undesclosed ankle injury.  When the Knicks don’t disclose an injury it usually means something bad.  Kyle is probably getting his foot amputated. 3
5 Galloway, Langston Looks like Galloway is slowly coming out of his slump, giving the backcourt some much needed support.  And the better Langston plays, the less we have to see of Sasha. Continue reading
