2016/17 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 15

The Knicks went 1-2 since last weeks rankings, although losing in 4OT felt like 2 losses. The offense has been there but the defense is still a huge problem. The Knicks have held exactly 1 team below 100 in January, and that was Philly whom they held to 98 in a loss.

1 Anthony, Carmelo If this is indeed Melo’s last few weeks as a Knick he’s going out with a bang. A 30 and a 45 point game this week on efficient shooting might make a couple teams seriously consider making an offer. 1
2 Lee, Courtney Great week for Courtney. Almost won the game a couple times against the Hawks. For those of you who wanted him to shoot more, he’s over 13 attempts per game this week and shooting at a super efficient clip. 5
3 Porzingis, Kristaps Porzingis probably had his best week of 2017. Not saying much because he’s been downright bad or injured most of the time, but had to put him up here after that dunk on Dwight. 9
4 O’Quinn, Kyle We have Noah, Plumlee, and Hernangomez on the team, yet the much smaller O’Quinn defends and blocks shots better than all those guys. 7
5 Jennings, Brandon We got to see all 3 Jennings this week. The one that disappears, the one that scores like crazy, and the distributer that racks up more assists in one game than Rose in a week. Continue reading →

It looks like that embarrassment against the Bulls on the 1st really rallied this team.  A 3 and 1 week with the one loss being a missed 3 at the buzzer, which would have made the Knicks the first team to beat the Spurs at home all season.

Three games and three losses.  The Rockets game was tough, that should have been a win.  The most important thing now is to not lose Wednesdays game against the 0-18 76ers.  Everyone is going to be ranked 14th next week if that happens.

1 Porzingis, Kristaps Porzingis led the team in scoring against Miami with 11 points….gross.  On a more positive note, other than getting dunked on, Kristaps looked as good or better than Howard for most of the game. 1
2 Afflalo, Arron It’s too bad Afflalos 31 point game ended up in an overtime loss, but it was reassuring knowing that the Knicks have some actual scorers around Melo for a change. 3
3 Anthony, Carmelo A nice game against the Magic was followed up by a turd against the Heat and DNP-??? Against the Rockets.  Not the best of weeks for our superstar. 2
4 Seraphin, Kevin Two straight nice games for Seraphin.  Is it a rule that that Knicks can’t have more than 1 or 2 bench guys playing well at one time? 8
5 Calderon, Jose Calderon has looked much better since the beginning of the season, but 0 assists against the Heat in 25 minutes?  Come on. Continue reading →

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 25

The Knicks are officially eliminated so now they are beating playoff teams that are still fighting for playoff position because Knicks. A 2-0 week and two games to go to end this miserable season.

1 Anthony, Carmelo The 5 days off did Melo good as he’s back to the great play we’ve seen most of the season. Melo had the best season of his career and yet misses the playoffs for the first time in his career. Props to Melo for trying until the very end. He could easily have half-assed his way through the last few games and no one would have blamed him. 3
2 Stoudemire, Amar’e Amare has hardly missed any games this season and is still healthy. Figures that for the first time in 4 years he’s healthy for the playoffs and still won’t get to participate. 2
3 Smith, J.R. JR isn’t on the record setting pace he was last week but still hit 8 3’s in the two games on a decent percentage. So what was up with the first 4 months, injury or just mental? I’d say injury but he seemed to instantly get 200% better the day after Woodson sat him for a full game as punishment. 1
4 Shumpert, Iman Look at that defense! So glad everyone is rounding into form 2 weeks too late. 4
5 Chandler, Tyson A grand total of 7 points in the last two games. OK, not everyone is rounding into form at the end of the season. 5
6 Prigioni, Pablo Pablo passes the ball and he’s not Raymond Felton, that’s good enough for 6th place before we even mention he’s 2nd in the league in 3 point percentage. 6
7 Aldrich, Cole Aldrich has done a nice job at backup center when he’s called upon. Which is about once a week for reasons only known to Woodson. 9
8 Felton, Raymond Not a bad week for Felton. Not a good week but considering the way this season has gone I’ll gladly take a mediocre week from Felton. 7
9 Hardaway Jr., Tim THJ really regressed the last few weeks. He still has potential and hopefully will grow next season. Looking back at the draft there isn’t one player that got picked after him that I’d rather have. 8
10 Murry, Toure’ Murry played 1 more minute than Brown this week for a total of 1 minute played. Why develop players when you’re eliminated from the playoffs when you can add wear and tear to your vets for next year! 10
11 Jeremy Tyler Same comment as for Murry, why in the world not play these guys 30 minutes a game to give them some run considering there is nothing to play for now. 12
12 Shannon Brown Zero minutes this week but at least he got to wear a jersey. 11
13 Martin, Kenyon Still getting dem checks. 13

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 24

The Knicks beat Brooklyn last week, getting our hopes up just enough so that the losses to the Wizards and Heat hurt as much as possible. This is the 2nd to last rankings of the year and last one before the Knicks are officially eliminated. For those still paying attention the Knicks need to go 4-0 and the Hawks need to go 2-4. Possible but not bloody likely.

1 Smith, J.R. Against Miami JR made a franchise record 10 3’s and took and all time NBA record 22 attempts as well as an NBA record 14 attempts in a half. He has also hit an NBA record 24 3’s in 3 games while shooting efficiently. My one complaint during all this is the end of the Miami game where JR though he was invincible and took 26 foot fadaway 3’s with LeBron in his face. 2
2 Stoudemire, Amar’e For the first time since joining the Knicks it looks like Amare will be fully healthy for the playoffs….. 5
3 Anthony, Carmelo Melo is injured, his arm is numb and as a result he can’t shoot. A normal coach would sit him for a few games so he heals and comes back 100%. In the Knicks world he plays 40 minutes and Melo takes 17. I bumped him down a little because of the 17 shots, not because of the injury. He could have played a facilitator role. 1
4 Shumpert, Iman His offense hasn’t really been there but his defense has looked really good. Woodson might not appreciate defense but I do. 6
5 Chandler, Tyson Great call not selling high on Chandler. I really look forward to albatross Tyson next season. Still playing OK, but all signs point to a huge regression next season. 4
6 Prigioni, Pablo He played a few decent games before getting shredded by Miami. Still, he does basketball things like passing the ball, which is a nice and rare commodity on this team. 3
7 Felton, Raymond It didn’t happen this week, but maybe next week we can see Felton lead the team in assists. That would be a cool thing for our starting PG to do. Still, props for not letting an opposing guard have a career high for two straight weeks! 9
8 Hardaway Jr., Tim It would be really cool if multiple Knicks played well in the same game. On the same night JR went off from 3 point land THJ went 0-7 with a +/- of -26. Ick. 7
9 Aldrich, Cole And now we get to the 6 players who don’t play for reasons only Woodson knows. I’ll rank these guys in order of how I think they would have done if they did play. Cole would have gotten a lot of rebounds and played decent defense. 8
10 Murry, Toure’ Hopefully Jackson is aware of the things Murry does on the non-offensive side of the court aka playing defense because Woodson sure doesn’t. 11
11 Shannon Brown Brown got 2 steals in 6 minutes this week. That’s 12 steals per 36 minutes! Sign this guy to an extension! 10
12 Jeremy Tyler Did Tyler really regress or did Woodson forget he was on the team? Both are just as likely to have happened. 12
13 Martin, Kenyon Keep getting dem checks. 13
14 Bargnani, Andrea I’m not even mad at Bargs anymore, but I will be all over again once I find out who Toronto drafts with the Knicks picks. Guaranteed to be an all star. 14

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 23

3-1 this week as the Knicks make their playoff push. Hahaha, just kidding about the playoffs. They beat two crappy teams and 1 good team missing 40% of their starting lineup and also got completely annihilated against a good team. The Knicks final 7 games are all against playoff teams so this will probably be the last semi nice rankings of the season. I forsee much bitterness in the final two weeks.

1 Anthony, Carmelo At first I was thinking the Knicks have 43 losses, how much worse would they be without Melo? Then I realized the answer is they’d much much worse. 2
2 Smith, J.R. JR had a very good week, and played out of his mind against the Kings. I’m worried that he’s gone from about 10 shots a night to 15+, that doesn’t bode well for when he goes cold again. And he will. 5
3 Prigioni, Pablo His plus minus shows he knows how to run an offense. He gets shredded by opposing guards fairly often but at least he does many other things on the court better than the rest of our sorry backcourt. 3
4 Chandler, Tyson Would have put him 3rd for having a few good games but 1 point and 4 rebounds against the Suns? Shame on you Tyson. 4
5 Stoudemire, Amar’e Two good games before his streak of playing really well ended. He got some rest last night so maybe he’ll be ready to dominate during the Knicks EPIC PLAYOFF PUUUUUUSHHH, hahahahaha. 1
6 Shumpert, Iman Remember when Shumpert could play offense? He’s this high because he plays defense and contrary to Woodsons opinion defense does mean something. 6
7 Hardaway Jr., Tim His shot was off all week but he somehow posted a positive +/- in every game this week. Something we’re going to need for this exciting, riveting PLAYOFF PUSH!!!!!!! Hahahahaha. 9
8 Aldrich, Cole I like how Woodson is actually using a backup center sometimes. Not when Tyson is putting up 1 point, the Knicks are getting embarrassed though. Why try anything different when you are down by 30. 7
9 Felton, Raymond Trey Burke didn’t go off last night. That makes one straight game that opposing guards didn’t go off. Progress. Progress we’ll need for the final 7 games of the Kicks 2013-14 PLAYOFF PUSH, lol. 11
10 Shannon Brown Shannon Brown. 2 points and 1 steal in less than a minute against the Warriors. That’s the kind of productivity we’re going to need for the end of the season, totally exciting and realistic playoff push! 12
11 Murry, Toure’ I get it now. Woodson is saving Murry so he’s fully rested for all of these playoff games the Knicks will be playing. 8
12 Jeremy Tyler Only one game out! We’ll ignore that it’s 2 in the loss column and don’t have a tiebreaker so it’s essentially 3 games with 7 to go because Tyler is ready for the totally feasable, definitely doable PLAYOFF PUSH! 10
13 Martin, Kenyon I hope K-Mart comes back this week because if there is one thing he knows how to do it’s push for the playoffs. 13
14 Bargnani, Andrea Sucks for you Bargs. You were stuck on all those lottery teams only to get to the Knicks at the height of their amazing run to the playoffs and are too injured to play! 14

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 22

Just when the Knicks rope you back in with an 8 game winning streak they drop turd of a game by looking heartless against a Kyrie Irvingless Cavs team. Atlanta is giving the Knicks every possible chance to make the playoffs but the Knicks don’t seem to want to capitalize. We’ve reached the final month of the season so lets take a look at what appears to be the roster that will fail to get Melo to the playoffs for the first time in his career. Oh and Earl Clark did not get picked up for the rest of the season (Shannon Brown did) so there are only 14 players on the roster now.

2 Anthony, Carmelo The look of absolute disgust on Melos face as he watched the bench give up a double digit lead to Philly in three minutes says it all. 1
3 Prigioni, Pablo 9 assists in 18 minutes against Philly, yes please! Tell me again why he plays half as many minutes as Felton? 7
4 Chandler, Tyson The league leader of putting up decent stats while looking like he doesn’t give a crap. We all know Tyson can do better than 4 points and 6 rebounds against the Cavs. 11
5 Smith, J.R. Aaaaand just like that JRs shot is gone again. Still, kudos for keeping those bad shots to around 10 a game instead of 20 and for passing the ball better than our starting PG. 3
6 Shumpert, Iman Shumpert doesn’t really put up stats anymore but you can see how much his defense is missed when he’s out. For example the Cavs game. 6
7 Aldrich, Cole Aldrich played about 7 minutes a game this week and not in garbage time. He’s done what you want a backup center to do; rebound and at least try on defense. 4
8 Murry, Toure’ His only appearance this week was the 4 minutes against Philly where the Knicks let up a huge lead. Murry is up this high as a farewell because I’m pretty sure Woodson will blame that on Murry and we’ll never see him again. 12
9 Hardaway Jr., Tim It seems like THJ alternates weeks between playing great and sucking. Looking forward to him playing great next week. 2
10 Jeremy Tyler Like Murry, Tylers only action was that epic collapse vs Philly. Welcome to the doghouse. It’s getting crowded in here. 8
11 Felton, Raymond Felton cannot cover anyone. No one. Look at the PG stats for the opposing team. WTF. Raymond should be required to watch 5 hours of pick and roll film a day until he figures out how to deal with one. 10
12 Shannon Brown What can Brown do for you? Not much. 13
13 Martin, Kenyon I saw K-Mart stand up on the bench, so it’s confirmed that he’s not crippled. 14
14 Bargnani, Andrea I know it’s not Bargnanis fault the Knicks gave up so much for him but it doesn’t make me any less pissed off. 15

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 21

Only two games this week.  The Knicks winning streak continues, but their streak of playing terrible teams comes to an end on Wednesday when the play the Pacers.  We’ll talk playoff possibilities next week, for now lets enjoy a 6 game winning streak and the acquisition of Phil Jackson.

1 Anthony, Carmelo Melo played 39 minutes in a blowout game to a terrible team.  You’d think with 17 other PF’s on the team Woodson would be able to rest Melo once in a while.  Anyway, another typical week from Melo, lots of points and a good amount of rebounds.  2
2 Hardaway Jr., Tim I’ve been saying that THJ would have to go off on offense to compensate for his lack of defense and that’s just what he did.  Two straight 20+ point games on some crazy good shooting nights.  If this were NBA Jam he’d have a trail of fire following the ball every time he shoots. 10
3 Smith, J.R. Who is this Smith guy who takes a normal amount of shots and hits a decent amount of them?  Who is this guy who passes the ball more than the starting PG?  And will it continue when the weather gets warmer and the club scene picks up? 4
4 Aldrich, Cole With Chandler and Amare out Aldrich got the starting nod against Boston and responded with a double double and three blocks.  He was rewarded the next game with a handful of garbage time minutes because Woodson. 13

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 20

This week is pretty much the exact opposite of last week.  The Knicks won all four games, lots of players got involved and everyone looks energized.  Oh yeah and Phil Jackson might become president.  Kind of awkward timing for all this considering there is a protest planned for tomorrow.  Lets see how the Knicks look at they race to keep their very slim playoff hopes alive:

1 Stoudemire, Amar’e The only things Amare did this week was to move into the starting lineup, find his midrange shot again, rebound at a nice clip, block shots and play acceptable defense.  I never expected Amare to every claim the #1 spot, but the Knicks are full of surprises lately. 4
2 Anthony, Carmelo Melo has been getting a lot more assists lately.  It’s amazing what happens when your teammates actually hit shots. 1
3 Chandler, Tyson Chandler missed the Philly game due to personal reasons, but before that had 3 double-doubles. 2
4 Smith, J.R. JR was also a big part of this turnaround, moving into the starting lineup, not taking as many shots and shooting more efficiently.  He’s also been getting a few nice looking assists every game. 14
5 Shumpert, Iman While he hasn’t been lighting up the box score, a look at his +/- numbers shows you the impact he has had on the court this week.  Pretty much the only bench player who’s been productive. 13 Continue reading →

2013/14 Knicks Roster Power Rankings – Week 19

Four games and four losses since last week.  The Knicks have won 2 games since January.  It’s March.  Earl Clark and Shannon Brown got to play 1 game of meaningful minutes before being relegated to the bench with Murry and Aldrich.  This makes complete sense since the Knicks trio of JR, THJ and Felton started the game out 1-20.  Gotta snap out of that slump at some point!

1 Anthony, Carmelo As much as I’d love to change up the top spot Melo couldn’t play worse than the rest of these jokers if he drop kicked the ball in the stands every time the ball was passed to him.  Thanks for still trying, sorry about the best year of your career being wasted on this trash team. 1
2 Chandler, Tyson Tyson Chandler averaged 17 rebounds over the last 4 games.  I’m thinking it’s easier to get a lot of rebounds when your backcourt shoots 11%.  Lots of bricks flying around. 2
3 Murry, Toure’ Murry got actual playing time once this week.  He played 24 minutes and had a +/- of -1 in a 23 point blowout.  That’s pretty good.  So of course Woodson benched him the next two games. 4
4 Stoudemire, Amar’e Amare had a terrible game against Miami, posting a +/- of -30 while doing almost nothing else and then sat the next game because he’s almost crippled.  Looks like the rest did him good because he shot over 80% the next two games and looked more like vintage Amare. 8
5 Prigioni, Pablo You can’t play shooting guard and not shoot the ball.  You can’t play PG and not pass the ball.  Stop being so passive, we all know you are better than this. Continue reading →
